Update on my professional activities, and more!
Associate Professor and Coordinator, Division of Dance, SDSU. Artistic Director: Joe Alter Dance Group. Currently negotiating with myself regarding self identification, constructed identity, non-self, being and wondering why "I" or anyone should care about it. Letting go of attachments, learning detachment, and of course, seeing these concerns manifest themselves in the possibilities of making intuitive choices not based on errant maps of experience. How does affect the work in which I am engaged: can I make choices based on what I am sensing without relying on habit or how I perceive myself as a person who dances?
By the way: what the hell is a dance class anyway?

OSU Alumni Touring Project

Hello Fellow Alums, I am interested in knowing whether any of you are interested in creating an OSU Alumni touring cooperation. What I am thinking is this: Many of us are Professors in college dance programs spread all around the country and might host performances for other alumni. It would create performance opportunities for work in various regional centers, be useful in the tenure and promotion process and formalize what already happens ad hoc. At San Diego State we are looking to host work-… Continue

first iteration is more or less done...

Hey OSU alums... It has been a bit crazy here in San Diego-the job at the SDSU is going well, thanks, in part, to the great work and support of fellow OSU alum Leslie Seiters. I am working on a new piece with some really fantastic collaborators that we are performing at CounterPulse in SF in a few weeks. Any OSU alums up there please come see us- This is an abridged version of the work called "The Merry Chase, or the recursive synthesis of an illusion" ....quite a mouthful of a title. Hope you… Continue

Hi joe!
Nice to hear from you! I forgot I was a part of this group and came back onto it by chance.
I am really loving it in Amsterdam. Was working on a larger project till last november, and now I am doing freelance work, as well as choreographing my own things this summer. I havn't seen Hilke at all. I really would like to know how she is, she is hard to get in touch with. If you are around let me know,...
Hope all is well on the west!

Hi Joe! Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your 'hello', but I've been thiniking about you and wondering how you are doing. Sounds like things are going well, ya? I'm well, writing lots of proposals for projects/opportunities. I just found out that I'll be going to the National Performing Arts Conference/Dance USA Roundtable in Dever this June. Very excited about it - got a scholarship from Dance USA.

That's all the news that's fit to print.
'hope yer well~ M

Hey Joe,

Good to hear from you. Things are grand here in Vermont. I am here for two more years and then moving on. Starting a company, check out my new website. It's super simple but a start for now.
